A Passage to India: One of the Most Valuable Movie

‘A Passage to India’ is the name of valuable movie. The movie is set in the 1920s during the period of growing influence of the Indian independence movement over administration of England. The main characters in the story are Dr.Aziz, Mrs.Moore, Miss Quested, Mr.Fielding, and Ronny. The characters of the actors represent the differences of the Englishmen and the Indians in that time. Many Englishmen looked down at the Indians. According to, the differences of cultures, lifestyles, wealth, and so on make people far away to each other. Hence, A Passage to India can reflect people lives in that time well.
The story begins with, Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested; two ladies from England come to India. Mrs. Moore comes to visit her son, the magistrate in the city of India, Chadrapore. Miss Quested comes to engage with Ronny, Mrs.Moore’son.  One day, Mrs. Moore meet Dr.Aziz accidentally.  Mrs. Moore is very nice to Indian like Dr. Aziz. Dr. Aziz is very glad to meet Englishman that can be friend to the Indian, so he invites her to visit Marabar Cave. Dr.Aziz invites Mrs.Moore, Miss Quested, MR. Fielding, and Professor Godbole to visit the cave. Unfortunately, Mr. Fielding and Professor Godbole miss the train. Dr. Aziz guides them to the cave but Mrs. Moore is so old and tired, then she waits for Dr. Aziz and Miss Quested below.  In the front of the cave, Miss Quested asks Dr. Aziz about his love to his ex-wife. The question is so offensive, so he goes to the other place of the cave. Miss Quested comes in to the cave. It was very dark, the she light the matchstick. Suddenly, Miss Quested runs away from the cave and goes to the car on the road below. It is very frighten Dr. Aziz. When Dr. Aziz reaches Chadrapore, police arrests him on the rape of Miss Quested. His friends know that he is innocent, so they try to help him from the accuse.  According to the injustice of the court, there are riots in the town, people call for set Dr.Aziz be free. The only one eye-witness in this case is Mrs. Moore and she comes back to England. Fortunately, Miss Quested declares that she lied because she does not want to marry with Ronny, the rude man. Afterwards, they set Dr. Aziz be free and people yell loudly. Mr. Fielding and his friends are very glad. Next, Dr. Aziz thinks Mr. Fielding; his Englishman friend gets married with Miss Quested, his enemy. So he is angry with Mr. Fielding and leave Chadrapore.  Next, Mr. Fielding finds him and tells him the truth that he gets married with Mrs. Moore’s daughter. Therefore, the relationship between two friends who are different race, religious, and cultures become to be the same.

To sum up, human value is not about the race, religious, money, culture. It is about how good they are. As you can see from A Passage to India that reflects people lives in society. The poor is always insulted by the rich. However, the thought in their mind is the most important thing. Likewise, Dr. Aziz wants to be friends with the man who comes from the land which is far away. Unfortunately, with his race, people think they are bad, and easily believe the accuse.  Every society has both good and bad man, dark and light, so do not justice people because their races, or how the dress.

Teenagers and Grammar

Grammar is one of the topics that make teenagers get bored from learning English.  Many teenagers confuse from its complex structure and rules.  However, grammar is one of the most important things in learning languages effectively. Accordingly, teacher has to find the way to solve this problem. If teenager-students can learn grammar without pressure, the lesson will be meaningful and good to their language skills also. To enhance teenager-students enjoy with English grammar is not an easy burden for teacher, so teacher has to prepare a lesson plan to teach them carefully. There are many ways to encourage students to learn grammar. Here are some ideas for making grammar teaching more teen-friendly; to break down negativity, to use texts and to choose the involve students.
Break down negativity can release students’ pressure in learning grammar, because they think grammar is a difficult thing to learn. If your students are very resistant to grammar, show them why it’s necessary. Record someone using correct vocabulary but confusing grammar and ask them what the problem is. You could also give them written messages without any grammar words and ask them to make sense of them. Sometimes students are put off by metalanguage, such as the names of tenses, or the G–word itself, so avoid it! Talk about language for –ing instead, e.g. ‘Today we’re going to look at language for telling stories’.
Use texts in teaching grammar can make students easier to understand the rules and the structure. Present grammar in the context of a reading or listening text, an authentic video extract or a song. This way it’s easier to see how the language is used and work out the meaning from the context. Often the key to motivating a class is an interesting topic, so choose a text which will engage your learners. Many grammar areas can also be reinforced through extensive reading or listening. Graded readers are very useful for teenagers. If your students use public transport, encourage them to read on their e-books or look at magazines etc. on their mobiles or listen to podcasts while travelling.
Involving the students in teaching methods can help them to memorize the lesson. Avoid lecturing on grammar – nothing is more boring – but continually questions the students, either in a whole class situation, or by giving questions about the language to groups/pairs/individuals. Experiment with getting the students to teach each other grammar areas. You could get them to research new areas or revisit areas that you have looked at but which are still problematic. You’ll need to provide or recommend ways of researching the items. Remember the saying: if you want to learn something, teach it to somebody else! Moreover, learning grammar can be fun activity, if teacher choose the new and interesting media to teach the teenager.

To summarize, it is the fact that most of teenagers do not enjoy learning grammar. Nevertheless, there are the ways to encourage them.  To break down negativity, by avoiding the name of tenses or the name of grammar rule, then give them the errors and ask them to find the error instead. Next, to use the text, students can learn and memorize the grammar point from the context. Then, let students to involve in classroom situation in learning grammar and provide them opportunities to work in group or in pairs. In addition, using the interesting materials and media to show the teenagers that learning grammar can be fun.  Finally, it is very important to the teacher to choose the grammar that match to students challenge. If the students learn happily, the valuable knowledge they can get.

็H-O-R-S-E Game

Have you ever heard of H-O-R-S-E game? Right, what I would like to do today is to show you what H-O-R-S-E game is. H-O-R-S-E is an activity that helps students to memorize the vocabulary what they have learnt without pressure. It can be applied to all level of students, from the beginner through the advanced. To do this activity teacher will use the time about 10 minutes or more. It depends on how teacher manage the time.
The goal is focused on learners to practice spelling in a fun and interactive way
The next section I will explain about preparation. First of all, you will keep a list of words the class has studied, then add to the list each time your class learns a new word. Then, keep the list on a large piece of paper where students can always see it. Students can also keep their own lists in their notebooks. You can play the H-O-R-S-E activity anytime you have a few extra minutes in class and want to review vocabulary and spelling.
Ok, we will talk about the background of this game. H-O-R-S-E is a popular game in which players practice shooting a basketball. We have adapted this game for the English classroom.
Now let’s take to procedure steps consist of ten steps that students have to pay participate in.
The first step is to put students in groups of about 5 and let each group stand in a circle.
Secondly, in each group, have students count off (from 1 to 5, if the groups have 5 students); tell students to remember their numbers.
Thirdly, have Student 1 stand facing away from the list of words and all out one of the vocabulary words so all groups can hear you.
Afterwards, Have Student 1 in each group spell the word (quietly, so that the other groups don’t hear).
Next, have the other students find the word on the list and check whether Student 1 has spelled the word correctly or incorrectly.
After that, if Student 1 spells the word incorrectly, he or she receives an “H.” If Student 1 spells the word correctly, he or she does not receive a letter.
Next, rotate so that Student 2 (then Students 3, 4, and 5) gets a chance to spell a word in the same way. Continue rotating.
Then, each time a student spells a word incorrectly, that student gets an additional letter (first H, then O, then R, then S, then E). Once a student has five letters (H-O-R-S-E), that student is “out.” The student should stay in the circle and help check other students’ spelling but will no longer spell words.
Right, let’s move to the last procedure, when all the students in the group except one have gotten H-O-R-S-E, the remaining student is the winner of the group.
Well, let’s me summarize by saying, H-O-R-S-E game is the game which can encourage students to learn about the vocabulary more enjoyable and memorable. Moreover, it helps students to learn how to working in group. Besides, it can be applied to all level of students. So, what are you waiting for? Just take the idea of this effective game and applied it to your students.
